Pizzey

Pizzey tells the story of the world’s first refuge for battered women, and its founder, the controversial Erin Pizzey. Pizzey’s life has been a permanent state of war – battling the Council officials who wanted to close the refuge, fighting against the violent men who wanted their wives back, even meeting threats from feminists who hated her for saying that women could also be violent. Despite the threats, the back-stabbing, the legal injunctions and the constant battle for funding, Pizzey kept going – and her legacy lives on.
